  Reflecting on the April 2020 Floods: Hope Amidst Devastation In April 2020, as the world grappled with the uncertainties of a global lockdown, Uvira faced an additional and devastating challenge: one of the worst natural catastrophes in its history. Deadly floods from the overflowing rivers and Lake Tanganyika ravaged our town, leaving a trail of heartbreak and loss. Entire neighborhoods were submerged, homes and businesses were washed away, and, tragically, lives were lost. This catastrophe left thousands in dire straits, forcing many into makeshift shelters and tents as they struggled to rebuild their lives from the wreckage. A Time of Mourning and Action As a community-focused group, we could not stand by and watch as our brothers and sisters in Uvira faced this overwhelming pain.
